Twitter is a fantastic resource for Fantasy Sports, make no mistakes about that technology haters. Even if you’re not up on following 25,000 people and tweeting about what kind of chips you’re eating, there is still value. Need proof? Here is my Week 1 Fantasy Football Twitter Recap from some of the top Fantanalysts I follow, sometime talk shop with, and in a few fortunate occasions even compete against.
Jon recapped today’s action too.
Week 1 Fantasy Football Twitter Recap
After large chunk of Week 1 top waiver adds: Julius Thomas. Andre Roberts, Terrelle Pryor, Joique Bell, Marlon Brown, Any D vs. PIT
— Brad Evans (@YahooNoise) September 8, 2013
It is never too early to get active on the Waiver Wire. But are the Steelers really that bad? They can’t be that bad can they? Thomas is as much a sell high candidate as Waiver Wire target in my books, but I wouldn’t give him away. Pryor looked ugly at times yesterday, but those rushing yards are a bonus and he is fast. Bell looked awesome.
13 receptions for 208 yards for Boldin. Nuts. — Chet (@Chet_G) September 8, 2013
This is an indication of how great Colin Kapernick was yesterday too, but Boldin looked like a leader on the field, sidelines, and is a reliable receiver. I wouldn’t project 10 TDs, but he will be a PPR monster.
Anquan Boldin: 208 yards, 1 TD .. Jacksonville Jaguars: 178 yards, 0 TD — Faux John Madden (@FauxJohnMadden) September 8, 2013
More Boldin love. Heading into the season I kept hearing optimism for the Jaguars and that they were improving and capable of winning up to 6 games. I got them at 4 tops.
Shane Vereen is running angry and inspired today. Even when Ridley is out of the doghouse, Vereen has earned more carries going forward. — Sigmund Bloom (@SigmundBloom) September 8, 2013
This was a committee already and there will be plenty of touches for both, but the pecking order could be in flux all season, which is great for Vereen owners and not so hot for those that targeted Ridley in the 2nd.
Great call by our newest #FantasyFootball analyst @ochocinco to start Steve Smith today despite the tough matchup with Seattle. — Jamey Eisenberg (@JameyEisenberg) September 8, 2013
This is a great example of why you shouldn’t over think roster management and discount your offensive players talents. Smith is the number one target in Carolina, has elite skills and is a proven veteran and should be started weekly.
AJ Green just filthy. — Dexter’s Library (@Dexters_Library) September 8, 2013
I was thinking dirty, like a dirty martini, but filthy works.
Fred Jackson never dies. After an offseason of anti-hype, he gets 108 yards from scrimmage. Spiller 55. — gregg rosenthal (@greggrosenthal) September 8, 2013
Spiller is on my bust list, I don’t like their offense and teams will be able to key in on him. I wouldn’t trade him, or trade for Jackson either though.
Jordan Cameron with a HUGE day (9-108-1 on 13), leading all #Browns in receptions, yards, targets and TDs. — Josh Moore (@4for4_Josh) September 8, 2013
It’ll be interesting to see if he can keep up the production when Gordon returns and if Brandon Weeden and the offense can figure it out. It wasn’t pretty yesterday, and Trent Richardson has to be better too.
Reggie Bush’s stat line is misleading, but in what way? Don’t think he’s gonna have 77-yard TDs every week, but barely missed 2 rushing TDs.
— Alessandro Miglio (@AlexMiglio) September 8, 2013
It sure was, he had 2 TDs reversed, but one thing isn’t misleading: he is going to be all over the field and is a home run threat every time he is on the field in this offense. He is still elite in space and again, could lead the NFL in total yards.
The most incredible thing about this Sunday is that Adrian Peterson’s first run went for 78 yards yet he finished with 93 yards for the day
— Shane Bacon (@shanebacon) September 8, 2013
He had 3 TDs for his fantasy owners though and that is pretty good fake football. He isn’t going to hit 2500 yards running for 15 yards on his final 17 carries though.
Despite the INTs Terrelle Pryor worth 21 Fantasy points. 112 rush yards!! Completed 65% of his passes. Plays vs. JAC next week. — Dave Richard (@daverichard) September 8, 2013
Pryor is going to be the poster boy of Real vs Fake Football. At times he looked awesome out there, others he looked awful. I wouldn’t be rushing to get him into your lineups, but those rushing yards are nice.
Anyone still predicting Reggie Wayne’s demise? — Mike Clay (@MikeClayNFL) September 8, 2013
Number 1 target in a high powered offense that throws a lot. I didn’t realize that Wayne was being discounted. He is another PPR beast.
Eddie Lacy hasn’t looked great, but the Niners are a nightmare matchup and he is still the goal line back on a lethal offense. Top 15 RB ? — Neil Parker (@naparker77) September 8, 2013
That’s me, quoting me.
Larry Fitzgerald is happiest man on the planet right now with Palmer — Josh Collacchi (@PFF_JCollacchi) September 8, 2013
His fantasy owners who took the plunge at the Round 2/3 turn have to be pretty happy too.
Cardinals quarterbacks were 0-for-9 targeting Larry Fitzgerald in the end zone last year. He has 2 catches on those throws today.
— ESPN Stats & Info (@ESPNStatsInfo) September 8, 2013
They actually threw to him like 30 times, but only 9 were close enough to qualify as targets.
Frank Gore isn’t young and his carries will be limited, but being attached to a high powered offense keeps him a solid #2 RB. — Neil Parker (@naparker77) September 8, 2013
I’m at it again.
Jason Witten doesn’t score many TDs, but he had two last night – 8-70-2 (9). Love him, especially in PPR.
— John Paulsen (@4for4_John) September 9, 2013
The Giants refused to let Dez Bryant beat them, so Witten and Austin took care of it. I doubt other teams will blindly let those two beat them over and over, but it isn’t like Witten can’t have his way with defenses when he is focused in on.
#Giants WR, Victor Cruz just became the 16th player since merger to have 3 receiving TDs in week 1 #NFL
— Steve Gallo (@SteveGalloNFL) September 9, 2013
Hakeem Nicks looked good too. This is still an elite passing offense.
Remember: David Wilson doesn’t suck, neither does Ridley. But Lamar miller might #FantasyFootball @RotoExperts
— Patrick Mayo (@ThePME) September 9, 2013
One of the mysteries of Fantasy Football I don’t understand is how an unproven Running Backs with starting gigs get so much hype, especially ones on bad offenses. I have targeted Wilson and Ridley this season, but they’re attached to good offenses. I don’t own Miller anywhere. I still think Mike Gillislee is the best back on the Dolphins.
